Flying Tigers and Publix Host Easter Egg Hunt Saturday

2009 April 11 #40It’s not much of a hunt, as over 20,000 plastic eggs will be placed in the field tomorrow at Joker Marchant Stadium. Not much of a hunt, but certainly a lot of fun as children 14 and under race onto the field grabbing eggs for their baskets. According to the Flying Tigers, “the eggs will contain candy, a toy or a number that may be redeemed for special prizes.” The cost of the hunt is $2 per child. Proceeds “will benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation of Florida which benefits local youth sports organizations and local charities.” The hunt will be divided to two groups based on age. The first group will start after the Kids Fun Run at 10 am. Parking is free. For more information, contact the Flying Tigers at (863) 686-8075 or visit

Major League Baseball with a Local Flavor

2009 May 26 #3aWe don’t hide the fact we’re focused on Lakelanders. It’s our name, after all.

That’s why, when it comes to football, our photographer, Tom Hagerty, can be found at high school games…not the Bucs. It’s also why last year we published photos after every Lakeland Flying Tigers home game and the box score from every game home or away. For our readers on Twitter, we sent game updates and reminders. That’s coverage you didn’t find anywhere else.

Oh, say can you…

Tomorrow, from 10 am to Noon, the teams will hold auditions for singers who can perform the National Anthem acappella. (That’s singer-speak for “without a net.”)

They only have a few limited dates available, so sing your heart out. If you have any questions try to contact Dan Lauer at
