January 8, 2010

In a couple of weeks, Polk Museum of Art will open two new exhibitions — both of which are inspired by flowers in some way — and at least one of them is guaranteed to appeal to those of you who prefer to recognize what you’re seeing when you look at a painting. The first [...]

Right off the presses and just in time for Lakelanders’ Christmas stockings is a great coffee table book featuring the Polk Museum of Art. PMoA@43: Forty-Three Years of Service to Minds and Hearts. Busy Week Ahead for Lakeland’s Arts Scene

November 16, 2009

I was going to write a quick post about two upcoming events at the Polk Theatre, and then I glanced at Art-i-Facts and realized that there’s a lot going on this week arts-wise! In reality, it all started this weekend with the Downtown Art Walk this past weekend, which I heard was really nice — [...]

Dr. Scissorhands

October 31, 2009

Doctors are slicing and dicing this morning. Not at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center. They're operating for a couple of hours Downtown at the Farmer's Market. This isn't a gruesome Halloween-inspired surgery, but a pumpkin cutting contest to benefit VISTE....

New Small Series of Art Events at Black & Brew

October 6, 2009

I found out yesterday that there’s a small series of art events happening at Black & Brew this month. Lakeland.Art.Music is co-sponsored by Vine Community and First Presbyterian Church, but don’t expect a sermon or prayer circle. This is just a fun, free series for art and music lovers. To quote the organizers, “Since we [...]

There are two great, family-oriented events taking place next Saturday, and you should make plans to attend at least one of them — preferably both! Artist Coming to PMoA’s Exhibition Reception

July 13, 2009

I hope you've been over to PMoA to see the new exhibitions. One of them, Silver Linings: Delicate Drawings by Carol Prusa is really captivating. And, lucky for Lakeland, the artist will be here for the reception on July 24 at 5:30pm.

Art-O-Mat at PMoA

June 9, 2009

Today’s short but sweet post: Polk Museum of Art has a fun new “toy” in its lobby. It’s an Art-O-Mat — an old cigarette machine that has been refurbished to dispense original pieces of art for $5 each (+tax). Clark Whittington, the founder of Art-O-Mat will be at the Museum on Saturday, June 27, to [...]

Find Shelter in PMoA’s New Exhibition

May 20, 2009

Polk Museum of Art is opening three new exhibitions in June, and the first one is called Shelter. Since I've been having a hard time putting the concept behind this exhibition into my own words, I'm just going to quote PMoA's Curator of Art, Todd Behrens:

May 10, 2009

Since I was out walking around MIDFLORIDA Mayfaire by-the-Lake this morning, I figured I’d go ahead and take a shot of the two Best of Show Winners:

A Couple of Images from Mayfaire

May 9, 2009

Just a couple of shots I’ve taken so far at MIDFLORIDA Mayfaire by-the-Lake. It’s hot out here!! But the art is great and the food smells wonderful. I’m actually debating between a couple of necklaces…
