Florida Dance Theatre has just announced that they’re extending a special offer on tickets for their upcoming performance: buy one ticket, get one free! This offer not only applies to the general admission and childrens tickets, it also applies to the pre-performance V.I.P. Cocktail party tickets. Whoo hoo! Carol, the Artistic Director at FDT, decided [...]
Polk Museum of Art is trying something new for the next couple of months. On Thursday evenings, they’re going to stay open until 8pm so that more people will have a chance to see the really crazy cool exhibition of Gregory Barsamian’s artwork. The best part is that Museum members will be able to see [...]
Whew! What a weekend. I forgot to mention that I was at Race for the Arts at the Fort Frasier Trail — the part that starts at PCC Lakeland — this morning. But here are some pics from Platform earlier tonight. I apologize for not remembering the names of all the artists. I also apologize [...]
I’ve uploaded a few pictures from tonight’s View & Review at PMoA. It was a small crowd but a good one.
I was just glancing at Art-i-Facts magazine, and there’s a lot happening in the arts this weekend. But I’m going to focus on just two — the two, in fact, that I will be attending: View & Review at Polk Museum of Art and Platform Art Party over at PCC Lakeland Campus. First, there’s View & [...]
I think I’ve mentioned it already, but one of my other favorite non-profit arts organizations is Florida Dance Theatre. Not only am I on the board, but I’ve also been a student for almost 6 years. Anyway, I’m excited about their next performace, Innovations Dance, which will be held April 18 at 7:30pm at Polk [...]
While I’m thinking about it, the next Platform Art Party is going to be held next Saturday, March 21, 6:30 – 10:30pm at PCC Lakeland Campus. The theme this time is “Eco Vision.” Tickets are $18 online ($20 at the door) and for students: $12 online ($15 at the door). Admission includes beer and wine. [...]
If you haven’t heard about it yet, View & Review is a new program that Polk Museum of Art is hosting. The goal is to give artists a venue to have their work reviewed by an art professional, and to give art lovers a chance to meet local artists while hearing about the thought processes [...]
This Friday night, PMoA will be hosting the opening reception for its newest exhibition, Unbelievable Transformations: Moving Sculptures by Gregory Barsamian. The artist will be talking about his work at 6:00pm and there will be light refreshments and a cash bar starting at 7:00pm. The reception is free for Museum members and $10 for non-members.
If you’ve ever wondered what the hubbub was about PMoA’s Gala, but never had the $350 per person to find out, here’s your opportunity! The Gala is this Saturday, February 28, and the Museum has just announced that anyone who wants to come after 9pm, can get in for $250 per couple. That’s a $450 discount! [...]
Since my second love is dance, I wanted to extol the virtues (and virtuosity) of a dance company that is coming to Branscomb Auditorium at Florida Southern College this Saturday as a part of their Festival of Fine Arts. I saw Hubbard Street Dance Chicago at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center last year, and [...]
If you haven’t made it to one of Polk Museum of Art’s View & Reviews, you’re missing out on some interesting and lively discussion. You’re also missing out on seeing some really beautiful artwork by some talented local artists. The idea behind View & Review was to give artists an opportunity to have their work “critiqued” [...]
Polk Museum of Art is hosting a Silk Painting Workshop on Saturday, February 21, that will be taught by Vicky Luffman, a Lakeland based silk painter. She’s planning to cover all the basics of silk painting, so no experience necessary! All materials will be provided but you should bring an apron or oversize t-shirt because the [...]
I was thinking about my schedule this evening, and I realized that I don’t think I’ve mentioned a neat little group here in Lakeland: ArtGroup. I first found them on meetup.com a few months ago, and I’ve been to a few meetings when I can. It’s a pretty small group with a solid core, and [...]
Friday night, Polk Museum of Art hosted its third View & Review. This new monthly program allows local artists to present a piece of work to be reviewed by a guest critic. I was going to post my cute little picasa slide show of all the images, but Word Press is being picky and won’t [...]
One of the things I’ve heard before, from people who aren’t terribly familiar with Polk Museum of Art and everything it does, is, “You guys should offer art classes.” Well, prayers are answered! (Actually, we’ve been offering classes for years, but that’s not the point.) Spring Art classes will start at the Museum on February 3rd. [...]
I just finished taking some pictures of Polk Museum of Art’s event that was held tonight. Atlanta artist Radcliffe Bailey was in town, and the Museum had a small reception for him. The evening started with Todd Behrens, the Curator of Art, asking Radcliffe some questions, and the conversation went from there. Radcliffe was really interesting [...]
