Do you have questions about the school district budget and class size amendment? Then tonight's E-Town Hall is for you! It starts at 5:30pm and should end at 7:30pm. So even if you don't tune in right away, you can still join in the discussion. ...
You read about it on Twitter and Facebook, and just maybe at TBO.com: Lakeland makes blog's 'least educated' cities list. If you look deeper, that wasn't the story...
Not sure how many of you do your shopping at Publix on 33 but as of 7pm they were out of cans of pumpkin. Also the Winn-Dixie on Hwy 92 is out as of 7:25pm. Be sure to buy early for your cooking needs. One associate at Winn-Dixie said Wal-mart bought 90 percent of the local supply. If it's true I don't know but he said it with frustration. I called the Highland City Publix to see if it was in stock and yes it is! Happy Holidays to you.
Yes, we have the first results in of the 2008 Presidential Election. It's Barack Obama in a landslide with 65% of the votes to 33% for John McCain. Of course, the numbers are from the mock election held this year at Polk County Public Schools. Ninety-two schools participated with students and staff pooling their votes. Obama finished with 39,909 votes. John McCain ran a distant second with 19,617 votes. There were 1200 "Other" votes cast for the final 2%. The Polk County School students have predicted the winner of the Presidential election for three consecutive races. From the Polk County Public Schools Website: "Each school has received a packet of mock election information and materials including presidential ballots. Elementary, middle and high schools will tally their totals and break down the results according to student and staff totals. Staff totals will include votes from faculty, administration, foodservice, maintenance and other support personnel."
I’m going to wait until part two to have any significant response to Lorrie. But I did want to make two points: 1) I asked: “If Buddy Fletcher went to the Lakeland librarian to ask about banning books and then threatened to fire her over questions of personal loyalty, how would you react?” Lorrie wrote: [...]
Polls to vote are open today, August 26, 2008 from 7am to 7pm. The results are typically posted on the Supervisor of Elections web site for the state and Polk County.
Somehow, I have become included on the email list of a major Polk Republican kingmaker, donor and general person-about-the-county. And I've started receiving blast forwards of tidbits designed to rally the troops. That's understandable. Times are about as tough as they can get for the folks who sit astride Polk County like colossuses. The development economy has collapsed, and there's a good chance the country will elect a secret Muslim, terrorist fist-bumping representative of polyglot America who may increase their taxes. And judging from some of the names included in this support list, there may be more than a few of these folks who can empathize with forgetting how many houses they inherited.
There are rumors afoot that Barack Obama is coming to Lakeland on Friday, perhaps for the First Friday gathering downtown. (I know what you’re thinking, but the source for this is not the woman I’m married to, who happens to organize First Friday. I’ve asked her, and she’s heard nothing official or unofficial from the [...]

Well, kiddies, the big news in Polk County today is that The Ledger has purchased the last (feeble) attempt at good, old-fashioned competition among newspapers. Other bloggers have written some great posts on it, so I’m not going to re-hash this. Instead, I’ll kindly refer you to Chuck’s post today at Lakeland Local, Josh’s take [...]
