Lakeland Wins Opener Over Palm Beach 4-3

Chris White hit a towering, one-out, walk-off homer over the right field fence to lift Lakeland to a 4-3 win over Palm Beach in the opening game of a four-game series. Lakeland had taken a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run double by Jordan Lennerton and then added a solo run in the third on back-to-back doubles by Francisco Martinez and Ben Guez. Palm Beach scored twice in the fourth and the game stayed that way in the fifth as rains forced a 54 minute delay.The Cardionals tied the game in the sixth on a home run. Jose Ortega came on in relief in the eight and struck out six of the seven batters he faced to get the win. Game two of the series is Thursday at 7 pm.

Dunedin Defeats Lakeland 5-2

Brian Van Kirk’s grand slam highlighted a five-run sixth inning as Dunedin beat Lakeland 5-2 on Monday in Dunedin. Lakeland took a 1-0 lead in the first on Bryan Holaday’s first professional home run while Daniel Fields hit a solo homer – his fourth – in the second frame for a 2-0 lead. Jacob Turner tossed five shutout innings for the Flying Tigers, holding the Blue Jays to just two hits. The Florida State League is off Tuesday for the MLB All-Star game with Lakeland returning home on Wednesday to host Palm Beach in a four-game series.

Lakeland Over Blue Jays 2-1

Lakeland combined a first inning home run by Ben Guez and fourth inning doubles by Byran Holaday and Daniel Fields with a strong outing by Jon Kibler to post a 2-1 win over Dunedin on Sunday. The Flying Tigers got their first run in the first as Guez sent a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for his first homer of the season. Lakeland added a second run in the fourth as Holaday led off the frame with a two-bagger. One out later John Murrian singled and Fields hit his first of two doubles in the game to score Holday for a 2-0 Lakeland lead. Meanwhile Kibler was holding the Blue Jays in check on five hits with five strikeouts. The two conclude their three-game series Monday at 7 pm in Dunedin.

Late Friday Results: Lakeland Beats Threshers 12-2

Bryan Holaday went 5-for-5 in his professional debut to lead Lakeland to a 12-2 win over Clearwater on Friday. Holaday, Detroit’s 6th pick out of TCU, just signed with the Tigers on Wednesday. After collecting four singles in his first four at bats, Holaday doubled off the left field wall in the eighth. John Murrian had three hits for Lakeland which travels to Dunedin Saturday to open a three-game series.

Flying Tigers Lose to Clearwater 6-4

Clearwater starter Phillippe Aumont struck out 13 in six innings of work as the Threshers beat Lakeland 6-4 on Thursday. Clearwater led 3-0 in the top of the third but Lakeland came back in the bottom of the frame with four runs on three hits including a two-run single by Jordan Lennerton. Gustavo Nunez singled and doubled for Lakeland while Carmelo Jaime also had two hits for Lakeland. The two clubs wrap up their three-game series with a 7 pm game Friday at Joker Marchant.

Lakeland Ends Slide, Scoots Past Clearwater

John Murrian had three hits while Daniel Fields hit a two-run homer as Lakeland got by Clearwater 4-3 on Wednesday. Fields’ blast over the left field wall came on a 3-2 pitch with Murrian aboard in the third. The Threshers scored solo runs in the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game at 2-all. Brent Wyatt led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk while Murrian followed with a single. Wyatt then scored on a sacrifice fly by Gustavo Nunez while Murrian later scored on a single to right by Brandon Douglas who is hitting .500 in his last 12 games. The two teams play Thursday at 7 pm at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Flying Tigers Drop Both Ends of Doubleheader Against Dunedin

Dunedin scored three times in the sixth inning on four hits to post a 5-3 win over Lakeland in game one of doubleheader on Tuesday. Lakeland took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a two-run double by Alexander Moreno. The Flying Tigers extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth on a double by Brandon Douglas, who later scored on the back-end of a double steal. Douglas, who also singled and tripled, is now 19-for-40 in his last ten games.

In Game Two, the Flying Tigers scored first when Brandon Douglas stole home in the 1st. But Lakeland pitcher Jacob Turner hit three batters and gave up a double and a triple in the 3rd as the Blue Jays scored their first four runs. Lakeland Wins With Extreme Prejudice over Dunedin – 14-0

Adam Wilk tossed seven shutout innings and struck out nine while Lakeland backed him with 17 hits as the Flying Tigers trounced Dunedin 14-0 on Sunday in front of 4,402 fans. Jordan Lennerton led the offense with four hits while Alexander Moreno added three hits. Also with three hits was Pat McKenna who made his Lakeland debut. Brent Wyatt and John Murrian drove in three runs a piece with Murrian’s three coming on his second homer in the last two games. Six different players each scored twice for Lakeland with three more driving in two runs. Lakeland plays Dunedin Monday at 1 pm at Marchant Stadium.

Flying Tigers Fall to Clearwater 4-3

John Murrian homered and doubled and drove in all three Lakeland runs, but the Flying Tigers came out on the short end of a 4-3 decision, falling to Clearwater on Saturday. Clearwater jumped on the board in the first as Henry Garcia homered to tie the Florida State League record with a 36-game hit streak. After the Threshers added a solo run in the second, rain halted the game for two hours. Brandon Douglas and Francisco Martinez each added three hits for Lakeland which out-hit Clearwater 10-5. Lakeland returns home on Sunday to host the Dunedin Blue Jays for the Fourth of July game at 5 p.m.

Threepeat Repeated: Lakeland Loses Sixth in a Row

Jesus Sanchez held Lakeland to two hits over seven innings as Clearwater downed Lakeland 8-1 on Friday. The Flying Tigers got their lone run in the top of the ninth as Francisco Martinez tripled and then scored on a wild pitch. Billy Nowlin and Brent Wyatt got the other two Lakeland hits. The Threshers broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring six times, while Henry Garcia went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 35 games, one shy of tying the Florida State League.

Solo Homers Not Enough as Lakeland Loses 8-6 to Threshers

Billy Nowlin, Jordan Lennerton and Brent Wyatt all hit solo home runs for Lakeland, but it wasn’t enough as Clearwater scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull out a 8-6 win over Lakeland. It was Nowlin’s team-leading eighth homer of the year while Lennerton hit his second and Wyatt his third of the year. Wyatt, Daniel Fields and Gustavo Nunez each had two hits for the Flying Tigers. On the othe side of the diamond, Clearwater’s Harold Garcia extended his hit streak to 34 games, two shy of tying the Florida State League record. The two teams continue their three-game series Friday night in Clearwater.

Another Rainout for Lakeland

Wednesday’s doubleheader at Tampa has been rained out. One game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, August 22 at 1 p.m. No information on the second game is available. The Flying Tigers head to Clearwater for a three-night stint. They’ll return to Lakeland for a 5pm game on July 4th.

Lakeland Falls to Tampa 5-0

Tampa used three pitchers to limit Lakeland to three hits in a 5-0 win over the Flying Tigers. Jon Kibler pitched well, but was tagged with the loss after allowing one run in 6.0 innings of work with five strikeouts. The Yankees then added four runs in the seventh on four hits. Samir Rijo doubled while Brandon Douglas and Jordan Lennerton accounted for the three Lakeland hits. After Wednesday’s double-header in Tampa, the Flying Tigers head to Clearwater for a three-game series and return home on Sunday, July 4 for a 5 pm game against Dunedin.

Threepeat: Lakeland Loses 6-5 in Extra Innings

Tampa scored an unearned in the top of the 14th to hand Lakeland a 6-5 loss in extra innings – the third straight game the Flying Tigers have fallen in extra frames. The Yankees led 5-0 before Lakeland came back with three runs in the seventh on a two RBI-double by Samir Rijo and a run-scoring single by Carmelo Jaime. Brent Wyatt, who would later pitch the 14th inning, tripled with one out in the eighth and then scored on a single by Francisco Martinez to pull Lakeland within one. John Murrian then hit a pinch-hit homer to lead off the ninth to tie the game. Billy Nowlin was held hitless to see his hit streak snapped at 12 games.

Not a Reprint as Lakeland Loses to Brevard County 4-3 in 11th

Brevard County scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the 11th inning to defeat Lakeland 4-3 in extra innings for the second consecutive night. Lakeland took a 2-0 lead in the first while the Manatees tied the game in the sixth and both teams exchanged runs in the ninth. Brayan Villarreal made his first start for Lakeland since coming off the DL and went 5.0 innings, holding the Manatees scoreless on two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Billy Nowlin had two hits to extend his hit streak to 12 games while Gustavo Nunez, Brandon Douglas and Francisco Martinez each had two hits. Lakeland returns home for a 1 pm game on Sunday against Tampa.

Brevard County combined three hits and a Lakeland error to push across the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Manatees handed the Flying Tigers a 4-3 loss on Saturday. Brandon Douglas led Lakeland with three hits and two runs scored while Gustavo Nunez and Billy Nowlin each had two hits. Jacob Turner made his Lakeland debut tossing 4.0 innings and holding Brevard County to two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks. The two teams conclude their three-game series Saturday at 7:05 in Vierra.
