Poker Chips and Baby Jesus

I have no idea why, but I often get this overwhelming urge to pick certain objects and roll them around in my hands. I have had this issue for as long as I can remember. The objects that started it all as a child were the red, white and blue poker chips located under the television at my grandparent’s lake house. I was fascinated with them…had to take them out, touch them, then place them back in the set. I had this same problem with the Baby Jesus piece that belonged to our Christmas nativity set. I would just grab him and play with him. This act would get me into much trouble with my mother. I can hear her voice now saying ‘Put it back’! Never the less, to this day, Baby Jesus has this affect on me.

I continue to have no control over this problem. Major attacks occur when I’m shopping at Anthropologie…its that darn rotating display bin with all the knobs and drawer pulls…it pulls me in like a magnet and I immediately start touching everything with no rhyme or reason. And don’t get me started with beans. A freshly shelled pile of butter beans on a table will cause me to stick my whole hand in and start feeling around…again, no reason.

Am I alone in this struggle? Does anyone else suffer from this sickness? I’m seriously thinking of starting a support group.
