One of the tenets of Lakeland Local is to focus on the local businessman. We do this through we don’t accept advertising. Yet, we’ve published lengthy interviews, small features and short notes about local businesses — primarily in the Downtown and Dixieland areas.
Today, we’re linking to a local business that is sponsoring a unique fundraiser for the United Way of Central Florida. Starting tomorrow, Black and Brew will offer chances to win free dinner for a year. Patrons are encouraged to donate to the United Way to receive a entry in the contest. An individul may enter up to three times. Black and Brew suggests a $10 donation for one entry, $16 for a pair of entries and $20 for three. On May 21, 2010, a representative from United Way of Central Florida will randomly select 25 winners from the total entries. An individual may receive only one voucher. Here’s the link to the official rules.
Black and Brew will present 25 vouchers that give the recipient a free meal a week for 52 weeks. Restaurateur Chris McArthur estimates Black and Brew could give away over $10,000 worth of food to the 25 winners.
One-thousand entries could raise up to $10,000 for the United Way. We’re skipping lunch tomorrow to make our donation. If we win a voucher, we’ll “auction it off” for another donation to United Way.*
