54th Annual All-County Band Festival

DSC_5080Friday evening the Polk County Schools presented the 54th Annual All-County Band Festival in the Branscomb Auditorium at Florida Southern College. Nineteen Polk middle schools and 14 high schools were represented in a series of pieces from three bands.

Laura Singletary, director of bands at L.B. Johnson Middle School conducted the seventh and eighth grade band. John Seybert, of Southeastern University Music Education Coordinator, Asst. Director of Bands and Director of of SEU Jazz Band, conducted the 9th & 10th grade group. Dr. Rodney Dorsey, Associate Director of Bands at the University of Michigan, directed the 11th and 12th graders.

  1. Dr. Rodney Dorsey was the first band director at George Jenkins High School. Dorsey received his undergraduate degree from The Florida State University and was a drum major for the FSU Marching Chiefs. He is an incredible musician and gentleman. If I had known he was conducting the 11th-12th Grade All-County Band on Friday evening, I would not have missed it and neither would a whole bunch of other people.
