VISTE- Volunteers in Service to the Elderly- is presenting the event to raise awareness of the needs of Polk County’s elderly. Bumble Bee tuna is one of the most popular foods in the organization’s food distribution program.

This contest is open to everyone, and it goes a little something like this: Decorate or build a wreath using whole, unopened cans of Bumble Bee Tuna and other decorative items. All materials are provided by entrant (including wreaths, cans of tuna, etc.) The tuna cans cannot be punctured, as the wreaths and cans of tuna will be given to VISTE clients following the event.

To me, this seems like a great activity for a family, a non-profit organization or a business. Participants are allowed to put their organizational logos, trademarks, names, etc. on the wreaths. The event is open to everyone, including individuals.

A little competition is healthy, so there will be categories for judging and prizes will be awarded in each category: Originality, People’s Choice and Best of Show. Judges will be Bumble Bee officials.

Teams must determine how their wreaths will be displayed. VISTE will help with finding easels, provided advanced notice is given when teams register.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Lake Mirror Promenade, rain or shine. Participants may drop off or set up their wreaths beginning at 5 p.m.

The deadline for register is Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. Contact Tom Stull, Advisory Board member, to register: (863) 688-1211 or e-mail: tstull@furrandwegman.com.

Happy decorating!
