Battle of the Bands to Be Held at Polk Theatre

October 13th, 2009 9:26 am | by

If you’re a fan of live music and your curious to see what kind of an underground/indie scene we have here in Lakeland, Polk Theatre will be giving you a chance to satisfy that curiousity.

Underground at the Polk is hosting a Battle of the Bands on Thursday, October 22, at the Polk Theatre. The show starts at 7pm, and will feature music by Fire Spoken by the Buffalo, Evening People, Megolosaurus, Solia Tera, and Jack Barbee. The winner of the event will be the opening band for the next Underground at the Polk Event. Tickets are $6 each, and they’ll be selling pizza for $2.

In case you’re wondering about this “Underground at the Polk” thing, it’s Polk Theatre’s new initiative to attract younger audiences to their events. As a younger audience member myself, I think this is a fantastic move on their part. Many of our local arts orgs have been struggling to make themselves appealing to the next generation of supporters, and for the Polk, this may be the first step in bringing in new faces, new volunteers, and future patrons.

By the way, Underground at the Polk has its own facebook page, so become a fan. If you’re on twitter, they’re @UATP.

Reminder that this event is casual, and will be taking place in Starry Way Alley, behind the Theatre…it is an “Alley Party!”, but entrance will be through the Theatre doors.
