I’ve had long hair most of my life. I’ve thought several times through the years about cutting it for charity, but never followed through for one reason or another. On Nov. 5, that will change.
Michael Rose Hair Designs, located at 3139 S. Florida Ave in the Scottsdale Plaza across from Dunkin’ Donuts, will host Hair for Hope- a “hairoic” cut-a-thon to benefit women battling cancer. The event will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m.
I hope those of you with long hair will join me in cutting your hair during this event. Cutting your hair is quite a sacrifice. But our hair will grow back soon and women battling cancer don’t get their hair back so easily. This is an opportunity to help restore some confidence and dignity among women who are involved in the fight of their lives.
I think we can get 50 people to cut their hair, provided we get the word out to all of our friends and family members. So I ask you to share this blog post. Together, we truly can make a difference.
All hair donations will be sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a charity that has wigs made from the donations. Those wigs are given to women free of charge through American Cancer Society wig banks throughout the country.
This event is open to men, women and children and participants not only will get a free basic haircut- they’ll also get a coupon for $5 off their next haircut at Michael Rose Hair Designs.
Hair donation requirements are as follows:
- Donated hair must be at least 8 inches long when measured from just above the elastic band of the ponytail to the ends.
- Wavy and curly hair is acceptable, and it can be straightened to measure.
- Hair should be freshly washed, completely dry and free of any styling products.
- Hair cannot be bleached, chemically treated or permanently colored. However, it can be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes.
- Hair can’t be more than 5 percent gray.
If you would like more information on this event, or you would like to sign up to donate your hair, please call Lorrie Delk Walker: (863) 614-0555 or e-mail: lorrie@lorriewalker.com.
Disclosure: I am volunteering to help Michael Rose Hair Designs promote this event through my Lakeland public relations firm because I believe in the cause and want it to be a great success.

I have cut my hair twice for a similar event. The first time I was 16 and the length was 9 inches and the second time the length was 8 inches. This is a great cause. It feels good to give back and I encourage you to donate to this worthy cause.

This is a terrific idea. Perhaps some fliers could be sent to the Women’s Ministries at the local churches. Wish I could donate but I have short hair.
