How To Make a Random Wilco Post Local

I never got around to writing about my trip to the New Orleans Jazz Fest last month. A shame. But I recently stumbled across this YouTube video, apparently shot by somebody standing next to me as Wilco played “California Stars”. It shows maybe the best five minutes of maybe the best concert I’ve ever attended. It reminds me that the sun does shine, people do smile, and as Jeff Tweedy says, “We must get back to the music.”

Some vital background: the green dudes who dominate the video were in town for a weekend bachelor party, of which green mesh shirts were the official uniform. All had grown moustaches in honor of the groom. They were waving a moustache flag and standing next a flag dangling a plastic pork chop. All of this is relevant. Oh, and see if you can spot my brief cameo appearance. A great day.

  1. Billy, I’m jealous. Although I lived in nearby Hattiesburg, MS much of my life, I never got the chance to head down I-59 and enjoy the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Great music, great food, just overall a wonderful place to be. You are very lucky, my friend.
