2009 April 11 #5 Lauren GrondinNinth inning fireworks from Shawn Roof and Chris Carlson gave the Lakeland Flying Tigers a come-from-behind win over the Tampa Yankees Saturday night. Roof grabbed home on a double-steal to tie the game and moments later Chris Carlson’s walk-off home run sealed the win.

On a rehab stint with the Flying Tigers, Detroit Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya had a rocky start as the Yankees jumped to an early 2-0 lead. A pair of runs in the 3rd and 5th brought the Flying Tigers back to a tie. The Yankees then took the lead in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by Jesus Montero. But the Flying Tigers battled back in the ninth on a pair of singles and the pair of steals. See for full game recap and the box score.

After the game, the Flying Tigers and Publix treated children 14 and under to an Easter Egg ‘hunt.” Staff and interns spread plastic over the field. The announced crowd was 1,710, and it seemed they were mostly children. The youngsters lined up and ran to collect the candy and toy filled eggs. From the top seats it appeared the children vacuumed the field clean. The team then presented their first fireworks night, a Saturday home game feature this season.

Exciting baseball, an egg hunt, fireworks and a cool night made for a very pleasant evening at the ball park.
