Baseball is Back

It’s baseball season. Each year readers could count on Lakeland Local to deliver the Spring Training Report, from team schedules to area hotels, from local maps to wifi hotspots. This year we’re doing more than serving information to Spring Training fans and tourists. We’re going to cover the Lakeland Flying Tigers from Day 1 to the end of the season. Our focus has always been the community, and the Flying Tigers are the city’s only professional team*. It’s a shame they’ve not received the coverage they should, and we’re going to rectify that.

For each game we’ll publish the line score and box score. We’ll have photos and articles from select games. We’re even going to present a feature or two (or three). In other words, Flying Tigers fans will know exactly where to turn each evening for team news and information. You can already find our Baseball News section on our sidebar at right. Short news stories, scores, schedules, and links are easily accessible with a mere click. If you’re not sure what we mean by “short news stories” check out our first tidbit about Detroit Tigers Day on the new Major League Baseball Network.

In addition to the Flying Tigers games, we’ll have photos and reports from select Florida Southern Mocs games, and from the Central Florida Collegiate Baseball Invitational (In a mere month 215 college teams play more than 600 games in Central Florida stadiums.)

Well, that’s the opening pitch. I’ll have more news as the seasons progress.

*-While there are other popular sports, the focus on Lakeland Local is baseball. We’re perfectly willing to cover other sports, but we’d need contributors to attend the games and write the articles. If you’re interested, leave a comment and I’ll contact you.

Chuck, I look forward to the coming year and with your help I hope more people will enjoy a few games live. If you or Tom can’t get to a game, always feel free to grab something out of my file to help.
