Darby Critendon took time for her very busy schedule to go to the rodeo at the Lakerland Center Friday night. (There are still tickets available for tonight’s show.)
She took some photos:
Oddly enough, I attended the rodeo with my daughter and we left with a few impressions: (Her #1) The clown was the best part of the show. Which leads to (My #1) There is a lot of down time at a rodeo that the clown has to fill.
It definitely seemed an off night, as there appeared to be more misses than hits. But that might be the norm. The announcer did seem to spend a lot of time explaining that the rodeo participants weren’t doing as well as he hoped. He also mentioned at one point that the Saturday night participants were a different bunch than those we saw on Friday night. The crowd didn’t seem to mind.
The second participant of the night took a very hard fall and had to be carried out by EMS. That could have cast a pall over the participant’s performances, but I’m guessing they’re used to falls.
The opening ceremony was one of the most patriotic I’ve seen since a Yankees Sunday game. Let’s just say one American flag is not going to cut it at this rodeo.
While my daughter preferred the barrel racing, and bronc busting, I have to say I enjoyed seeing the dirt Zamboni.
