No, it’s not another name change for the Lakeland campus of the University of South Florida. On January 24th, USF Polytechnic will host more than 100 high-school students in a Tech Challenge regional qualifying competition. The event is sponsored by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) to “inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.” Student teams build robots to perform select tasks, then compete against each other in qualifying competitions toward a state championship.
This year’s competition includes teams from Lakeland, Winter Haven, Miami, Odessa, Palm Bay, Jensen Beach, Largo, Wilton Manors and New Smyrna Beach. The public is invited. The opening ceremony starts at 10 am, and qualifying rounds continue until the awards ceremony at 3:15 pm. For additional information contact Kathy Sebeny at (863) 667-7059 or email@example.com
