It’s Time For Girl Scout Cookies!

January 14th, 2009 9:16 am | by Lorrie Delk Walker

Cookie TimeThis is a good time of year for cookie lovers. Those little pushers in green soon will be out peddling their legal narcotics- GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! I’m a junkie and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Friday was the official kick-off of the cookie selling season, which will go through March 22. That means not just the Girls Scouts themselves will be out taking orders, but moms and dads will be bringing those order forms to their offices and hitting up all their co-workers. When I worked in an office setting, my dilemma never was to buy or not to buy, but from whom to buy. I usually tried to go all Barack Obama on the situation and spread the wealth. Order a box here from one, a box there from another.

If you plan to pre-order your cookies from a Girl Scout, you have to do it by Jan. 30.  But don’t worry if you miss out on pre-orders. The pushers will begin their booth sales on Feb. 27. That means you’ll most likely be able to find them outside your favorite grocery store- Publix.

Here’s a new twist that will make it easier to get your fix: simply go to www.gswcf.org and you can search by zip code for a Girl Scout cookie booth near you. Ahhh, technology.

Don’t worry about ODing on Girl Scout cookies. The more you buy, the more you help out a great cause. So live a little! Buy an extra box or two.

If you haven’t ditched that New Year’s weight loss resolution yet, but you still want to help out this worthy cause, you can donate your cookies to the Cookies From Home program. Donated cookies will be sent directly to U.S. troops serving in combat zones.

So…what’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie? Mine? I’m easy- Thin Mints.

As the old ’60s song says, “Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I’ve got love in my tummy…”  I absolutely LOVE the Peanut Butter Patties, so there will be plenty of them in my tummy when the sales begin!

  2. Heidi Says:

I still have 2 boxes of Thin Mints in my freezer.

  3. Dee Dee Says:

You can never, ever have too many girl scout cookies!  I shamefully have to admit, in the past I put my reluctant daughter in Brownies, just so I could help with girl scout cookies.  I obviously have a cookie problem.

I have such a weakness for Samoas. And then, about two years ago, I discovered Edy’s had made Samoas ice cream. It’s evil in frozen form.
