According to a City press release, the Lakeland City Commission voted today to lower the fuel charge for Lakeland Electric customers,
Starting January 1, 2009 the charge will lower $5 per 1000 kilowatt/hours ($65.90 to $60.90 per 1000 KWH). The base rate will be $58.49 per 1000 KWH for a total of $119.39 per 1000 KWH.
For comparison, the charges on January 1, 2008 were $60.00 (fuel) and $58.23 (base) for a total of $118.23 per 1000 KWH.
The Ledger’s Rick Rousos had a good article on Lakeland Electric a few days ago — before the rate drop. One point a lot of customers miss is clearly stated by Rousos:
Lakeland Electric customers cover the exact cost of fuel, and the utility makes or loses money on the base rate it charges.

I am just excited that the Commissioners decided to lower the rate. Typically when you see a hike you rarely see something lowered later on.
