Rays Win, but Fans Split in Donut Doubleheader

DSCF5303In 2007, the Tampa Bay Rays managed just 66 wins and their season finished before the playoffs. This year they went from “worst to first” as the team won a franchise record 97 games. They beat both Sox – White and Red – to make the World Series.

What does that have to do with donuts?

For the last two seasons Dunkin’ Donuts stores from Tampa Bay to Polk County have participated in a promotion tied to Tampa Bay Rays wins. Just enter a store the day after a team win and say “Rays Win” to get a free donut of your choice.

The stores weren’t too busy in 2007, but have been kept hoppin’ this season. A free donut season that was shorter for one of the two Lakeland stores.

It seems management at the South Florida location believed the promotion ended at the finish of the regular season. However, the store on Bartow Road kept the promotion going for each playoff win.

According to Natalie Ostroski, Dunkin’ Donuts North Florida Field Marketing Manager, there was simply a misunderstanding and the South Florida store will also honor the promotion for the World Series.

The Rays play the Phillies Wednesday night in the World Series opener. If all goes well for the team, Thursday morning you should have a free donut with your coffee.
