A final word on this rather fascinating virtual CSX kerfuffle. And a question for Bob Gernert, over at the Winter Haven Chamber.
Understandably, Mr. Gernert, who is a nice man and strong advocate for the state’s underwriting of CSX’s business plan, responded critically to my “ask the governor about CSX post” over at the Winter Haven Chamber blog. That’s to be expected. We’re on different sides. Fair enough.
But what I found curious was this update he published at 6:55: “Friends in Lakeland intervened to diffuse this matter and Governor Crist spoke without incident.”
Let me be clear: “This matter” consisted of me finding out from The Ledger online after I got home from work Wednesday night that Gov. Crist was coming to Lakeland. It further consisted of me sitting down in my living room, alone, while watching a Jon Stewart rerun and typing out that post on a whim. That was the sum total of the diabolical plan to “ambush” the governor. Believe me, I wish I could have come up with something better. As anyone who attended P in the P can say, I appear to have been ineffective.
I’m not aware of anyone intervening with me while I was at work today. But hey, Tom Palmer knows what I write better than I do, so maybe Mr. Gernert’s right. Perhaps I am unaware of the plans I am spearheading. This all gets very existential.
Anyway, that’s my question for Mr. Gernert: Which friends in Lakeland intervened? And with whom did they intervene? I’m genuinely curious. OK, so that’s two questions. I’m sure Tom will say it’s four.
