Lakeland Police Investigating Shooting
When the Lakeland Police have certain breaking news they send an alert to the media. It’s always just the information LPD has that covers the facts as they’re known. It includes instructions for further contact, and gives the media an idea when additional information might be forthcoming.
About 30 minutes ago LPD released they were investigating a shooting that occurred about 4:30 am. According to the report four men were drinking at a home on the 300 block of Doris Drive. An argument started, and the resident of the home, Christopher Thomas Morgan (22), shot Steven Burke (24) and Joshua Britton (21). They and the final of the four, Kevin Michael Kirk (20), all left the residence in a vehicle and drove near the Lockheed Martin and called for help. Britton and Burke were transported to the Lakeland Regional Medical Center where Burke later died. Britton is currently listed in serious condition.
The notice also reports that no charges have been filed against Morgan, who is represented by council, Rusty Franklin.
No further data is available, and LPD plans to not comment further until tomorrow morning.

Steven was my brother we had the same father, I hate the man that killed him and I hope he gets what he deserves. He needs to be put away for life I’m sure he could’ve avoided shooting my brother, the self defense thing is B.S. and I’m sure everyone knows it.

Morgan was visited by Burke, 24, Britton, 21, and Kevin Kirk the night of Sept. 27 and into the next day. Alcohol was being consumed by most. At some point the three visitors decided to play a prank by pretending to let the air out of the tires on Morgan’s van.
Anger led to a confrontation and Morgan went inside his home and armed himself with a 9 mm handgun. The three visitors followed him indoors, after which Morgan fired a round into the floor, causing a piece of flooring to strike Britton near his eye.
Britton, Burke and Kirk then got into Burke’s car, but Morgan implored them to stay. Burke, angered by Britton’s injury, yelled at Morgan, who retreated to his house with Burke and the others giving chase.
Punches were thrown. At some point, Morgan fired two more shots. One bullet tore through Burke’s arm and torso. Britton was shot in the thigh. Burke later died of his wounds at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, police said.” – from The Ledger report
I am sorry for your loss and I can’t imagine what you are going through, but the VIDEO THAT WAS TAKEN proves Chris’s life was in danger and he had to defend himself. If you had some guy you didn’t even really know come after you into your house hitting you; you can’t tell me you wouldn’t fire a weapon if you had a chance. Chris was in all ways defending himself in his home. He is innocent, because anyone would have done the same.

First of all if he had time to go into to his house to arm himsewlf with a weapon I think he could have called the police instead if he felt threatened isntead of taking my brothers life he invited them there, therefore he knew him so you can’t say sh** about it. that’s messed up what you said how would you fell if your son or daughter or brother or sister were murdered things could have been settled differantly and chris was obviously a very disturbed person who needs to be locked up for his actions before he takes the life of another. It is cold blooded murder so don’t for one second tell me otherwise. He ran into his house to arm himself are you telling me he couldn’t simply call the cops if he felt threatened? and arm himself in case something happened before they got there no he was a stupid man and deserves hell for what he’s done.
