Aurevoir, Empirical Polk

ClosedThis sad news was posted this afternoon on Empirical Polk:

“This will probably be the last post to EP. I also just closed comments. Some had offered to take over the EP name, but it’s a brand that’s closely associated with me and I couldn’t see passing it along.

Thanks for reading, it’s been a fun ride.” — Josh Hallett

On Twitter Josh wrote, “Just closed down one of my blogs….feels somewhat liberating.”

When we bandied about the future of the News Chief, I never expected that paper to outlast Empirical Polk.

I take comfort in the word “probably” that Josh is leaving open the option to change his mind.

Last month, when he wrote of the Future of EP, I commented that we’d get the Hallett view on topics from Hyku.com, BlogOrlando, Flickr, and Twitter, but it won’t be the same. I subscribe to all his posts in each of those sites, but I fear we’ll lose his perspective on Polk County.

I look forward to a day where something local strikes him and he feels he must post or burst.

  1. EP set the bar for hyperlocal blogs. Josh, best wishes. Enjoy the break and continued success with your other social media projects.

I share Chuck’s hope that today won’t be the last EP post. Fortunately, there is still plenty of local Polk County news at Lakeland Local and Bob Gernert’s blog.

Chuck, thanks for posting this news and providing the opportunity to comment about EP.
