Dibs!

Chairs on Massachusetts Ave.If you’re downtown today, you’ve notice everyone preparing for tonight’s Christmas parade.

They’re doing it by setting up chairs, wrapping them with police line ribbon, and trusting no one will move them.

That is another reason why I love Lakeland. Dropping off chairs would never work back in Louisville, Kentucky during the Derby parade. True, the Derby draws a much greater crowd. They even sell tickets for the viewing stands. However, if you want a prime spot, you better stay with those chairs. They wouldn’t be there when you got off work.

I think next year, I’ll borrow all my neighbor’s lawn chairs, take the day off, and claim a block. At $5 a chair….

For charity, of course.

Note to the person who placed those particular chairs near The Terrace Hotel: You’re about a half a block away from the parade route.

  1. It’s so funny that you mentioned being able to leave chairs unattended. I made that exact comment to my husband last night. I told him that you know you live in a great little town when you can park a lawn chair on a sidewalk in the morning on parade day and trust that it would be there when you went back that evening. Have I mentioned lately that I love Lakeland?
