There are some Top American City lists you don’t want to make. Unfortunately, Lakeland was recently named on one such list.
An annual research project to identify “the 100 most challenging places to live with fall allergies” just placed Lakeland fourth, slightly ahead of Orlando. Our fair city is the only newcomer to the list, supplanting Tampa as Florida’s highest ranked city in (2006).
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) rates 100 metro areas each spring and fall seasons. The factors considered are: allergy medications used per patient, allergy specialists per patient and pollen. Lakeland was listed as “worse than average” for both of the final two factors.
