  1. Gee, who really designed this map, the Chamber of Commerce ? Looking at this map. Lakeland appears to have very little crime. How about the shootings, stabbings, drug busts, etc. ?

    Good point. The data is from the Lakeland Police Department Crime Analysis Unit. On the front page you see the disclaimer as to where I get this data.

    I know they track Assault/Battery as a category. For example, there were 8 the week of August 12 and none the week of August 5th.

    I won’t speak for the LPD, but I don’t think this was ever intended to be all reported crime in Lakeland. It is the crimes in those categories where patterns can be discerned.

    Assault/Battery/Murder are usually crimes of passion, are they not?
