Lakeland Crime Map June 11 to June 17

This is our 15th Lakeland Crime Map, and again crime has not disappeared in Lakeland.

On to the usual explanation…

You’ll notice the top right corner of the map has a pull-down entitled “Legend.” Pull that down to find check boxes for each category listed on the map. Now you can see only those categories that interest you. They’re all easy to toggle on and off.

In addition to the house icon for Residential Burglaries, we now have auto icons for Stolen Vehicles and Recovered Stolen Vehicles. Plus, for the occasional Residential Robbery we’ll show a bed. Note: Vehicle Burglaries are “salmon” icons. That category covers almost half the items on the map. Anything too bold overwhelms the map.

This week we’re covering
Lakeland Significant Calls for Service for June 11 – June 17, 2007.

Notes: You can click on a map pin to see the address and type of report. Click and hold to grab the map and move it around. When you click on a pin the address and call time is listed in the pop-up windows. You can also find a full page version of this map.

This week there were 57 events. They’re listed in the following areas: Business Burglary, Gang Graffiti, Residential Robbery, Personal Robbery, Stolen Vehicle, and Recovered Stolen Vehicle, Residential Burglary, and Vehicle Burglary.

Please note this is basic information that has not been subjected to further investigation or crime analysis. Some calls may eventually be cleared as unfounded from what was originally reported or may have been cleared by the arrest of an offender. – Disclaimer from the LPD site

The Lakeland Police Department is using this map on their blog, Inside. The Lakeland Ledger also features this map as part of their weekly crime maps.

Tampa has a similar map.

Note: The information is supplied by the LPD. (Thanks to CCA Wallace)

I use OpenOffice and CommunityWalk to make the map. This week MapQuest helped me find some addresses.

  1. I was in florida for vacation last week, and we were driving through lakeland, and we saw probably about 15 to 20 police cars and a big, SWAT type van, traveling on Florida Ave. this was Monday June 11, i’m just wondering what they were pursuing….thank you.

  3. Corey, I am the LPD Assistant Chief of Police over our Uniform Patrol and Special Operations (SWAT, etc.). Though I am out of town attending some senior management training, I track our daily activities while on the road and nothing from June 11th comes to mind as being that significant. Monday is our SWAT training day, so it is possible you saw our team going to a training exercise. Nonetheless I will check with the “folks back home” and make sure we give you the correct answer.

  5. Corey ~ in checking with our SWAT commanders I was told we did not have any type of activity on the 11th. However, PCSO did handle an arrest situation that day. It’s possible that is who you saw.
