The Florida Sexual Offenders and Predators site currently lists 405 persons with Lakeland addresses. Two more Lakeland residents were arrested this weekend in Operation Cyber Hawk. If you haven’t read the story, take a look at the Ledger’s story, and video. If you have Flash, here’s the video at TBO. Let me know if that report is any good.
Also, for a blogger’s point of view, “Wingman” was there as a cameraman for Fox13:
The shooting was interesting but the part I found the most fascinating was just hanging out with the officers and finding out about their work and how they did what they did and how they worked together. I came away extremely impressed by the professionalism and dedication of these officers, some of them very young, some veterans of more than twenty years. This team from Polk County has been recognized as the best in the state at what they do. I came away feeling very proud of all of them and grateful for their service to the community. Who can tell how many kids these folks are saving from a lifetime of trauma.
But after realizing, in the research for my sex offender article, how little is actually understood about the psychology of sex offenders, I find myself feeling a bit skeptical of Sheriff Judd’s suggestion that all pedophiles, if left unchecked, eventually end up kidnapping and murdering children. Again, I’m not defending the alleged pedophiles caught in this sting. The crime they are accused of committing is real, and serious, and should be prosecuted.
