In other breaking news, The Ledger reports that USF finally got the title to the land at I-4 and the Polk Parkway. I loved the lead:
It doesn’t have an official name yet, but the University of South Florida finally owns the land for its new Lakeland campus.
I’m going out on a limb and say it’s a done deal. I’m willing to bet all the people “in the know” had this decided long ago, and the surveys and retreats are just window dressing. In case you missed it, that was conjecture.
USF is happy to be in Lakeland, but they just don’t want to say they’re in Lakeland. Well, not Lakeland proper. As you can see from Marshall Goodman’s quote:
This is a gigantic milestone because it firms up the fact that there will be a campus in east Lakeland
We’re so big now that North and South Lakeland isn’t enough?
Well, now that it’s firmed up, we just need to wait for the money for the road. But, we have a name:
