Lake Hazel

This Thursday Lakeland is dedicating a new lake. Actually, it’s part of the BridgeWater development off State Road 33. Often new development roads and lakes are named after the children of the developers. Lake Hazel certainly isn’t.

If you’re from Lakeland you know this Hazel. The lake is named after Hazel Haley, who recently retired after 69 years teaching. Ms Haley taught at Lakeland High from 1939 to 2006. I could tell you a bit about her, but I know her only by reputation. Either you know her already, or you can get the story from the Ledger and other media:
