George Harris

The Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland is holding the Second Annual Legacy Event tonight and the public is invited. The event honors George W. Harris, Jr. and includes a program on his life and legacy. The reception starts tonight at 6 pm and the program follows at 7. Harris was one of the founding board members of CFGL.

In related news, the The George Harris Runaway and Youth Crisis Center opened in Bartow in January. The center is inviting the public to their dedication event March 2, 2007 at 9:30 am. The shelter is operated by Youth and Family Alternatives, Inc.

It was named in honor of banker and philanthropist George Harris who passed away suddenly in January 2006. George Harris was an early supporter of YFA’s program and Co-Chair of the fundraising effort to raise the construction funds. — YFA news release
